Vespizzatevi,
or in English, get Vespa'd, was the theme of a mid '50's advertising
campaign which promoted the Vespa as the ideal method of transit
for the modern world.
By the end of
April 1956 one million Vespas had been produced by Piaggio at Pontedera.
Piaggio had succeeded with their plan to rebuild the company with
a switch from military aircraft production to making the scooter
a ubiquitous form of transport that soon became a global cultural
icon. For many, the Vespa truely was the car on two wheels.
Early
Vespas, from top right: Moto Piaggio 5, aka 'Paperino', the first
Piaggio prototype; MP6 - the Vespa in it's iconic form, designed
by Corradino D'Ascanio; a 1948 Vespa 125; rare Vespa model 'U';
Vespa GS 150; Vespa 90 SS; Vespa VBC Super.
That's
enough history for now. Jump ahead fifty years... the Vespa Grandturismo
200.
